About the University

Tmt. Kannammal Educational Trust was founded in the year 1985 with the objective of dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Engineering Technology, Management, Medicine and Law. Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute (Dr. M.G.R. University) came into existence only in 2003 as a deemed university by the University Grants Commission.

Prior to this, Dr.MGR Engineering College, Chennai-600 095 was started in the year 1988. A Dental College under the name of Thai Moogambigai Dental College also was started in the year 1991. Both these colleges have good infrastructural and instructional facilities and are well equipped. All the courses in the Engineering Colleges are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, AICTE, Government of India.

Today, the University has three main Faculties - Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Medicine and Dental Sciences and Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. The varsity through its constituent colleges offers various academic and research programs in these faculties.

The university is located at E.V.R. Periyar Salai (on Chennai - Banglore Highway - NH4), Maduravoyal in Chennai. The nearest railway station is Chennai Central (14 Km from the campus); nearest airport is Chennai Meenambakam (24 Km) and Nearest Bus Terminus is Koyambedu Terminus (2 km).
